On the Dial | boygenius
If your ears have not been blessed by boygenius, you're doing something wrong. Boygenius is a supergroup comprised of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus. While they all have an impressive resume of their own, hearing their voices together is truly something remarkable. Their self-titled EP only has six songs, all of which were recorded in just 4 days.
Rejecting an industry that treats "women" as a genre, boygenius succeeds in elevating each artist's talent while perfectly blending their voices in earth shattering harmonies. Exploring themes of loneliness, self-worth, and heartache, the six songs pack a lyrical punch that is reminiscent of their solo work.
I was lucky enough to snag a ticket to the first show of their tour at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. As a long time fan of all three, I anxiously waited to see if they would play together as boygenius (the show happened before the album dropped). When Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus took the stage in their matching black blazers adorned with self-applied patches, the entire room shifted. We knew we were about to witness something magical, and we did.
