On the Dial: Mission Creek Festival 2017
Every April we dust off the glittery, pink tablecloth and pack the car full of books for Iowa City. Some call it the Catalina Wine Mixer. We call it the Mission Creek Festival. It will be my first time at Mission Creek and I'm excited to see what all the buzz is about.
This year's lineup is killer, with music acts including Ghostface Killah, Cloud Nothings, Kishi Bashi, and Andrew Bird. The amazing Kelly Link and Saeed Jones will also be gracing the festival with their presence.
In preparation for the festival, I re-visited Molly's blog post from last year 'A Literary Rookie at Mission Creek' to learn a thing or two. I've been to Iowa City once before while co-piloting Masande Ntshanga's book tour for The Reactive. Masande read in a men's clothing boutique decorated with a Lana Del Rey approved motorcycle + American flag combo. This time around, I hope to not drink as much Jim Beam at the Fox Head. Apart from motorcycles, fashion, and booze, Iowa City is home to one of the best book stores I've ever been to—Prairie Lights. I plan on visiting the store upon arrival.
If you're at the festival find me cruising the 7th Annual Lit Crawl on Friday night, and stop by our table at the Literary Magazine & Small Press Book Fair on Saturday @ The Mill from 11am-6pm. I've heard they sell $4 Bloody Mary's, so that's cool. I'll give you a temporary tattoo.
